When the Norsemen were exploring, they discovered two islands that are now known as Iceland and Greenland. They were far more intrigued with what is now Iceland than the bleak Greenland. So, to ward off invaders to the more fertile Iceland, they called the barren island “Greenland,” and the more promising island, “Iceland.”

Day Six-Thursday, March 16: In Reykjavik (B/D)
Today we depart for the famous Blue Lagoon, located about 30 miles from the city center, a stunning and unique geothermal lagoon that glimmers among the snow caps and lava fields. The Lagoon stays at a comfortable 90 to 95 degrees and is blue because of a blue-green-algae that also softens and nourishes the skin with its mineral salts and has been known to do wonders on your muscles, tired from our walks and hikes. We will spend the morning here, and you will have all the time you want to relax in the warm waters, take a private bath or even a water massage. Bathing suits and robes are available for rent. After we return to the city and lunch on your own, we continue with our afternoon activity. Of course, no visit to Reykjavik would be complete without a stop at the town of Hafnarfjordur, famous for having one of the largest settlements of “elves and other mystical citizens,” also known as the “hidden folk.” We end at the old fishing harbor where we have some time on our own for independent exploration in the area before taking our coach to our hotel to prepare for our Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
